Superb Heavyweight Battle on Anthony Joshua Undercard
Boxing fans were gifted a great night of fighting action at the Manchester Arena promoted by Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn live on Sky Sports.
Both fighters were trading blows till the final bell in this gruelling contest.
The fight definitely lived up to the hype with former world title challenger Chisora turning back the years in this slugfest.
“Fight of the Year”
There was some mammoth punches thrown in this fight and in the fifth Chisora had Whyte wobbled with a huge overhand right.
Then in the sixth, Chisora looked like he had emptied the tank in the previous round with Whyte having the better work and success.
Furious exchanges in the later rounds had the crowd on their feet. Damaging blows, brutal punches and the excitement that any man could win.
Both lasted till the Final Bell and we went to the judges scorecards.
Result : Split decision with only a point in it. Whyte Victorious.
Tony Bellew on the fight :
“I’ve not seen a heavyweight fight like that for 20 years. What a contest!”
Dillian Whyte spoke to Sky Sports the next morning said :
“It was an excellent fight and there may be a potential rematch there. But we will see what Eddie Hearn my promoter wants to do and where he wants to go with it.
“I thought I won the fight by three rounds, but this is boxing, when you leave it to the judges.
“Credit to Chisora, he showed up. I hit him with some bombs, he hit me with some bombs and he showed up to fight. It was the best Dereck Chisora since he fought Vitali Klitschko, in my opinion.
“Dereck is very experienced. He knows what to do to steal rounds, when to take breaks, when to have a go, so I had to out-kid and out-play him at certain points, let him unload, let him think he is getting success, and then show him that ‘I’m not hurt, it’s my turn now’. It is like a game of chess.”
