“Battle of Brixton” won by Dillian Whyte stopping Ian Lewison in Glasgow
10th round stoppage win for the vacant British heavyweight title sees ‘The body snatcher’ move to 18 wins.
Two south London rivals fighting for ‘bragging rights’ as well as the coveted vacant British belt.
Jamaican-born Whyte (age 28) proved too powerful for the older boxer as he patiently fought towards a late stoppage victory, landing very heavy body shots throughout the fight that caused Lewison to weaken as the rounds went on.
Known for his one-punch power it was Ian Lewison who started the better looking for an early KO.
Whyte slowly got into his rhythm, boxing behind the jab and landing with some good attacks.
The tank was starting to run for ‘Lay Em Out’ Lewison who used the ropes for support as more body shots landed from his rival.
By the end of round number 10, trainer Don Charles had seen his fighter take enough punishment, his face pretty banged up, decided to pull his man out of the fight.
Dillian Whyte on the contest :
“It means a so much to win this belt and there was no way that I was going to lose tonight.
“Ian’s tough and a good fighter, I knew it would be a hard-fought fight, I knew he wasn’t just going to quit early on.
“Once I saw his nose going later on in the fight I stuck with the jab and kept poking it out with great effect and it was causing a lot of damage.
“I can now move on and fight Chisora in December and then get a world title shot next year – I want to give my fans good fights.”
Other results on the card :
- Scott Cardle beat Kevin Hooper.
- Ricky Burns beat Kiryl Relikh (Main Event).
